First, I have to gush about how much I love the cover of Midnight Thief. It's so gorgeous!"This job could kill her." (page 1, line 1)
I enjoyed the story; it started out strong, introducing me to Kyra, to the family she has acquired, the world, the threats they face. I was intrigued by Kyra, a girl who grew up on the streets, a girl who is a talented thief. She's brave and imperfect and reckless and when she meets a mysterious man from the Assassins Guild she makes a decision that changes her life in ways that she never imagined.
I thought Tristam was a decent guy. He's dedicated, loyal, thinks he has his life planned out. But he sees things in black and white, right and wrong, and nothing in between. When his life collides with Kyra's he starts to see all the shades of gray.
With Midnight Thief Blackburne makes fantasy accessible, a simple world - and simple names - and a story that moves quickly. I did think it lacked the spark of originality, it seems a bit too much of 'law breaking heroine + law abiding hero + supernatural element and mix'.
